AUDIT SAYS WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMPUTER TRACKING INADEQUATE
Full Description:
The system that tracks Westmoreland County's computer equipment is in "disarray," and at least 12 county-owned laptops are unaccounted for, the county's controller said.
Westmoreland County Controller Carmen Pedicone said that an audit released Tuesday shows that the county has an inadequate inventory system.
"We have equipment in the building, but we don't know where it is all at, and some computers, we don't know if they're here at all. It's unaccounted for," Pedicone told the Tribune-Review. "The system is in disarray."
The audit said some computers stay in the purchasing department for months before they are tracked by the Computer Information System department or that the department has done a poor job of tracking inventory as it moves around the county.
The county's total computer inventory is worth about $6.4 million.
Dave Ridella, of the county's computer department, said in a formal response to the audit that more communication is needed between the computer and purchasing departments. A complete inventory of the county's computers should be completed by the end of 2007, he said.
